It’s 110 degrees here in the San Fernando and it’s making me miss Cologne, Germany even more. See, I was there last weekend for Soundtrack_Cologne 12, where I had a really wonderful time talking about my work on Mission:Impossible Rogue Nation with moderator Vasco Hexel. I also saw two great panels with composers Dave Porter (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) and John Lunn (Downton Abbey). There were fun parties, radio interviews, and I even got some shopping in (did you know you can’t get Lion Bars in the USA?!)
The best part was meeting the enthusiastic fans of film music, who had very interesting questions. I really enjoyed getting to know the folks who traveled to Cologne to talk with me and my colleagues about the craft and business of scoring films. On the last night, there was an awards show celebrating young composers and we were treated to some great new scores by the next generation!
Soundtrack_Cologne 12 was a lot of fun, and I’m very grateful to the organizers for inviting me to participate, including Michael Aust and Simeon Ostberg. I look forward to returning to the festival in the future and meeting more great composers and fans. Thank you, Soundtrack Cologne!
